Q: What’s going on at the intersection of McKee Road and White Road? There has been much construction work and it seems like there are no more dedicated right turn lanes. Are there plans to bring them back? The larger, safer pedestrian islands are nice, but this really clogs up traffic flow.Hank HuA: San Jose has installed traffic islands extending into the intersection to slow drivers down. This is happening all throughout the city. The major cause of accidents in most cities is speeding. San Jose and other cities are trying to reduce speed by installing more traffic calming measures. More islands like this will be coming.Q: All of the discussion about the DMV driving test got me thinking: I wonder how self-driving cars that I see on the road would do in a DMV-style driving test. I suspect that they would pass with perfect marks. They could drive a pre-set route, including a freeway portion, and parallel park. It would be a great article if you could set that up, maybe betwee...49ers training camp: Top 5 roster hopefuls opening eyes in practice

SANTA CLARA – Training camp is not meant to discover Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey or, apparently Nick Bosa, who has extended his contract-related boycott to 10 days.Roster hopefuls abound for the precious few spots that may (or may not) be available on a Super Bowl-seeking unit. Here are five up-and-comers who’ve helped their respective case through seven practices:RB Ty Davis-PriceFrom John Lynch running into him in the weight room at 5 a.m. to Frank Gore celebrating one of his training camp runs, Davis-Price is drawing a fan club with his sense of urgency after a defunct rookie year. He’s refined his physique (less fat, more muscle). But temper any praise for him and any running backs until they show their stuff in preseason games (and next week’s practices at the Raiders’ facility). With Elijah Mitchell (thigh) out for a week or two, that means more opportunities for Davis-Price and Jordan Mason as potential understudies to Christian McCaffrey.TE Brayden WillisThis seventh-r...1 dead after car crashes into pole, catches fire in Monterey County

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A Texas man faces either the death penalty or life in prison without parole after being convicted of fatally shooting a west Texas deputy sheriff.A jury in El Paso deliberated for about 30 minutes Thursday before finding Facundo Chavez, 31, guilty of capital murder in the 2019 death of El Paso County deputy Peter Herrera during a traffic stop.Chavez admitted during testimony that he shot and beat Herrera and said he did so because his girlfriend, who was with him at the time, said Herrera had harassed her.Prosecutors argued that Herrera did not know who was in the vehicle he had stopped for a traffic violation shortly before 2 a.m. because the vehicle was unfamiliar and the traffic stop was in a dark area.Authorities say Chavez fired 15 shots at Herrera, then beat the deputy with the gun, after getting out of the stopped car at the deputy’s request. The jury will now consider whether to sentence Chavez to death or life in prison.Herrera died two days after...These Colorado cities have some of the nation's highest costs for raising kids
