LONDON (AP) — Irish writer Paul Lynch won the Booker Prize for fiction on Sunday with what judges called a “soul-shattering” novel about a woman’s struggle to protect her family as Ireland collapses into totalitarianism and war.“Prophet Song,” set in a dystopian fictional version of Dublin, was awarded the 50,000-pound ($63,000) literary prize at a ceremony in London. Canadian writer Esi Edugyan, who chaired the judging panel, said the book is “a triumph of emotional storytelling, bracing and brave” in which Lynch “pulls off feats of language that are stunning to witness.”Lynch, 46, had been the bookies’ favorite to win the prestigious prize, which usually brings a big boost in sales. Authorities said the attack may have been a hate crime.The shootings occurred at about 6:25 p.m. Saturday near the UVM campus, according to Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad. He said police are searching for the shooter.Two of the men are in stable condition and the other suffered “much more serious injuries,” Murad said in a news release Sunday. The three, all age 20, were visiting the home of one of the victim’s relatives and were walking when they were confronted by a white man with a handgun.“Without speaking, he discharged at least four rounds from the pistol and is believed to have fled,” Murad said in a news release. “All three victims were struck, two in their torsos and one in the lower extremities.”Murad said all three men are of Palestinian descent. (KRON) – A traffic stop led to an arrest for weapon possession by the American Canyon Police Department.American Canyon officers initiated a traffic stop on a black Kia with an expired registration traveling southbound on Highway 29 on Nov. 25 around 9 a.m. Two people injured in San Francisco shooting The driver was identified as 21-year-old Vallejo resident, Michael Maurice Williams III.According to police, Williams consented to a search of his vehicle. He also makes sure to buy a Lucky for Life ticket for 10 or 20 draws, according to the Michigan Lottery.On September 17, the retailer at a GoLo gas station made a mistake, accidentally printing a ticket with 10 lines for a single draw, Sopejstal told the Lottery. Sopejstal told the retailer he still wanted it.“I checked my ticket one morning and saw that I had won $25,000 a year for life,” he told Lottery officials. “I immediately started thinking about all the things I could do with the money and whether I wanted to take the lump sum or annuity option. Family members of Keith McKechnie are mourning their loss after his body was found in a well in Avon on Saturday.McKechnie, 45, who lived on East High Street, had been missing since September. His brother said she had told investigators to check the well long ago.His brother, Aaron, said he immediately suspected his brother may be in the well but investigators didn’t search the area until this weekend.“I don’t know what took precedence over this,” he said. “I let them know that I believed he was still on the property and the one place to look for him … and they never did … I guess they just didn’t care.”In a statement, Norfolk District Attorney Morrisey said, “Our thoughts are very much with the McKechnie family tonight.
